Get ready for a legendary February, sports fans! NBC Sports is pulling back the curtain on their extraordinary plans for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games, Super Bowl LX, and the NBA All-Star Weekend. With tech innovation at the forefront, this month of live sports programming promises to be an unforgettable experience.
The Holy Grail of Sports: NBC's Tech-Driven Olympics
Brian Roberts, Chairman and Co-CEO of Comcast, describes the Olympics as the ultimate showcase for NBCUniversal's technological prowess. It's a laboratory for innovation, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in sports broadcasting.
Molly Solomon, Executive Producer and President of NBC Olympics Production, shares their vision for the Winter Games: "We want to make the best seat in the house even better. This will be our most technologically innovative Winter Games ever."
Expect to see more live drone footage, enhanced aerial coverage, and unprecedented access to athletes. NBC will be miking U.S. hockey players, freestyle skiers, and snowboarders, bringing you closer to the action than ever before.
Solomon adds, "We're excited about access. We've pushed everyone to go places they've never seen before. Winter athletes are covered up, so we need to see their faces before they gear up. The International Olympic Committee has granted us this access, and we're going to make the most of it."
Super Bowl XL: A Technological Extravaganza
Rob Hyland, Sunday Night Football Coordinating Producer, will be leading the charge for his first Super Bowl as lead producer. He takes over from the legendary Fred Gaudelli, and will be working alongside another Hall of Famer, Drew Esocoff.
Hyland promises, "We'll have every camera angle, every replay source, and every microphone covering Levi's Stadium. We're prepared for any technological advances the game might demand."
NBC tested some of these advancements during the Bears-49ers matchup, including Weather Applied Metrics, which provides insights on how weather conditions impact sports events. Hyland explains, "If we get wind on Super Bowl Sunday, we can illustrate how it affects the flight of the ball graphically."
NBC will deploy over 80 cameras, including SkyCam, live drone, and Steadicam systems, along with augmented-reality graphics. The graphics package will be a brand-new design, debuting on the Chargers-Patriots Wild Card game this Sunday, setting NBC apart from other Super Bowl broadcasters.
Hyland adds, "Our insert package and scorebar will be the DNA of the Super Bowl package. We want to get it right for the Super Bowl, not just save it for the big day."
NBA All-Star Weekend: A New Era Begins
The weekend after the Super Bowl, NBC Sports will produce the third pillar of their Legendary February celebration. NBA All-Star Weekend (February 13-15) marks a new era, with NBC taking on the festivities for the first time since 2002, and the signature event adopting a U.S. vs. the World format.
Sam Flood, Executive Producer and President of Production at NBC Sports, says, "We have the USA vs. the World format right in the middle of the Olympics. Director Pierre Moossa has an arsenal of cameras at his disposal. We're going to make it high-flying and special."
NBC has been working closely with the league and the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles to deploy multiple new camera positions for coverage of the NBA All-Star Game and related events. Frank DiGraci, Coordinating Producer for NBA at NBC Sports, explains, "We worked out camera positions early on, ensuring no seat kills. We'll have a camera dead-eye on the rim, as well as above-the-rim and below-the-rim cameras. We're getting as close to the action as possible."
DiGraci also mentions the "mouse cam," a miniature camera with an ultra-wide lens positioned in a hole at floor level in the basket stanchion. SkyCam, super-slow-motion capabilities, and other key tools will ensure a visually stunning experience.
NBA Games Bookend Legendary February
NBA games will bookend NBC Sports' Legendary February lineup. It kicks off with the debut of Sunday Night Basketball on February 1, featuring the Lakers visiting the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The month concludes with an iconic Celtics-Lakers matchup at Crypto.com Arena on February 22, following the Milano Cortina 2026 Closing Ceremony.
Sam Flood explains the decision to take the studio show on the road for Sunday Night Basketball, "Frank and I went to games last year, and we wanted to bring that excitement back to the broadcast. Having our all-star crew on the court before the game begins is the perfect way to lead into the biggest game of the week."
