Imagine a place where your love for anime and your craving for ramen collide—welcome to Krazy Ramen, West Babylon’s newest hotspot that’s already turning heads. But here’s where it gets exciting: this isn’t just another ramen joint; it’s a passion project by co-owner Yan Guo, who’s seamlessly blended his two greatest loves—anime and ramen—into one unforgettable dining experience. Opening its doors on January 9th in the former Blaze Pizza space on Montauk Highway, Krazy Ramen is more than a restaurant; it’s a tribute to the anime fandom, with walls adorned by iconic characters like Vegeta, Goku, and Gohan from Dragon Ball Z, alongside favorites from My Hero Academia, Full Metal Alchemist, and Attack on Titan. And this is the part most people miss: Guo’s childhood obsession with anime, fueled by saving every penny of his allowance to buy comic books, is the heart and soul of this venture.
Located in the Great South Bay shopping center, the 2,500-square-foot space comfortably seats 60 guests, offering a vibrant atmosphere that’s as much about the visuals as it is about the food. Guo, who also owns Stony Brook’s Meet Noodle, spent nearly two years bringing this dream to life. But what’s on the menu? Let’s dive in. The miso ramen ($16.95) is a standout, featuring a rich pork broth topped with corn, cha shu egg, bamboo shoots, scallions, and nori. For those who prefer classic flavors, the tonkotsu ramen ($15.95) is a must-try, while the spicy tantamen ramen ($15.95) packs a fiery punch. Vegetarians aren’t left out—the vegetarian ramen ($15) combines a miso-based broth with tofu, scallions, bamboo shoots, sweet shiitake mushrooms, and corn. But here’s the controversial part: while ramen steals the show, Guo is already planning to expand the menu with a make-your-own poke bowl ($16.95) and appetizers like edamame ($6), steamed shrimp dumplings ($7 for six), and a chicken katsu bun ($8). Is this too much, or just the right amount of variety?
On the beverage front, Krazy Ramen offers a refreshing lineup, including coffee boba ($7.50), fruity teas like the Strawberry Delight (a blend of strawberries, green tea, ice, and milk for $6.95), and lemon tea ($5.50). Open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, this spot is poised to become a go-to for anime enthusiasts and ramen lovers alike. Here’s a thought-provoking question for you: In a world where themed restaurants are a dime a dozen, does Krazy Ramen’s unique blend of anime and ramen set it apart, or is it just another fad?
