Duke Energy to Reimburse Creedmoor Residents for Thanksgiving Week Outages
Duke Energy has announced a plan to reimburse Creedmoor residents for damages incurred during a power outage that occurred the day before Thanksgiving. The utility company acknowledged that its equipment failure caused significant issues, including damage to HVAC systems and appliances.
This decision comes after WRAL reporters Keely Arthur and Heidi Kirk pressed Duke Energy for answers on their accountability. The outage, which affected around 2,300 customers, was caused by two power lines in the Creedmoor area sagging and making contact. Duke Energy's spokesperson attributed the large number of affected customers to the unusually large size of the power lines involved.
To qualify for reimbursement, customers must complete Duke Energy's online claim form, verifying that their homes were connected to the lines affected by the Nov. 26 outage. Homeowners have reported damage to HVAC systems, appliances, and cable boxes, leading to unexpected repair costs. Lisa Oakley, one of the affected residents, expressed relief at the prospect of financial relief, emphasizing the significant impact of the damage on her business.
The reimbursement process is a positive step for Creedmoor residents, offering financial assistance to those who suffered losses due to Duke Energy's equipment failure. However, some residents have reported delays in receiving responses to their claims, prompting Duke Energy to assure customers that they will receive timely responses.
This development highlights the importance of utility companies taking responsibility for their equipment failures and working diligently to address customer concerns. Residents impacted by the outage are encouraged to submit their claims as soon as possible to ensure they receive the necessary reimbursement.
